Our Program

Roots & Wings is a gentle, nature-rich preschool for children ages 1–5, inspired by play-based learning and meaningful relationships. We believe that curiosity is cultivated through connection—between children, educators, families, and the natural world. Our mixed-age environment fosters empathy, independence, and wonder, while our curriculum draws from Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf philosophies to support whole-child development. We have partnered with Wonderschool to provide a balanced nature based curriculum.

We honor each child’s unique rhythm and voice, offering a nurturing space where growth unfolds organically through storytelling, exploration, and joyful play. At Roots & Wings, we plant seeds of belonging and watch children soar.

Our Philosophy

Child-Led, Teacher-Guided Learning

Learning starts with a spark of a child’s interest. We believe that children learn best through play, exploration, and relationships. Each day presents numerous opportunities to wonder, create, and discover. We offer a wide range of developmentally appropriate materials for science, math, art, sensory, language, cooking, books, games, and fine and gross motor activities, so children can explore the world in ways that are joyful and meaningful to them.

Family, Child, and Teacher: A Collaborative Trio

Parents are essential partners in a child’s learning journey. Together, we form a nurturing triangle of support. Roots & Wings Family Events bring us all closer together, from cozy holiday gatherings to adventurous overnight campouts, all designed to celebrate community and deepen connection.

Making Learning Visible

Through photos, videos, journals, and conversations, I document each child's learning and share it with our families to celebrate. These glimpses, capturing quotes, artwork, and joyful moments, help parents see their child’s growth, thinking, and creativity. With help from parent volunteers, we can create keepsake portfolios of their early years.

A Living Cycle of Reflection

Learning here is never static. We observe, plan, guide, and reflect daily to meet each child where they are. Early experiences shape the architecture of the brain, and when nurtured with care and wonder, they plant the seeds for a lifetime of joyful learning.
